Located on West Thorn Street in the heart of San Diego, this expansive renovation was designed for homeowners who take their cooking and entertaining seriously. The vision was to depart from standard builder-grade finishes and construct a true chef’s environment. By pairing crisp white perimeter cabinetry with a sprawling natural wood island, we established a bright, transitional foundation that perfectly captures the breezy sophistication of Southern California living.

When a home frequently hosts large gatherings, a standard kitchen layout often creates bottlenecks. The primary challenge for the West Thorn property was to engineer a space that could handle high-heat, multi-course meal preparation while simultaneously offering guests an elegant space to mingle and pour drinks out of the chef’s way. The design required distinct, high-functioning zones that felt completely unified aesthetically.

Strategic Zoning and the Art of Mixed Metals

To deliver on the culinary front, we integrated top-tier professional stainless steel appliances—including a heavy-duty gas rangetop and double wall ovens, distinguished by their iconic red knobs—paired with a commercial-style exhaust hood. To solve the entertaining bottleneck, we designed a dedicated wet bar situated away from the main cooking zone. This beverage center features bespoke grey cabinetry, an integrated wine refrigerator, and beautiful floating wood shelves against a textured backsplash.

What truly sets the West Thorn project apart is our intentional approach to mixed metals. We anchored the room with massive, statement-making copper dome pendants over the island. These warm copper tones are expertly balanced by the sharp modernism of a matte black island faucet and the timeless elegance of brass hardware throughout the perimeter and wet bar.
